Ask ten Lithonia residents how they spend a summer Saturday and most will describe a trip somewhere else. Stone Mountain Park. Ponce City Market. A drive out to Madison. The city they live in reads, in their own telling, like the place they leave in the morning.
That habit made more sense ten years ago. In 2026 the same fifteen-minute radius around downtown Lithonia stitches together a National Heritage Area, a paved 30-plus-mile trail, a Saturday market, a public pool, an African American history museum, and a working amphitheater with a summer concert season. The connective tissue is the Arabia Mountain PATH, and once you notice it, a Saturday plans itself.
Here is what that day actually looks like in July and August.
Start Before the Parking Lot Fills
The Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve is the anchor. The preserve boasts 2,550 acres of trails and green space that comprises lakes, creeks, forests, otherworldly outcrops and, of course, Arabia Mountain itself. That scale is easy to skim past. It is roughly four times the size of Piedmont Park.
The catch is the lot. Parking has been crowded at Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve on the weekends. The outdoors has become a welcome respite for people during the pandemic, and the two main lots — the AWARE lot at 4158 Klondike Road and the Nature Center lot at 3787 Klondike Road — get full very quickly. DeKalb County's own recommendation is blunt: the Nature Preserve is most crowded on the weekends, and they encourage people to come on the weekdays instead in order to avoid crowds.
For a Saturday, that means a 7:30 a.m. arrival is not overkill. It is the plan. The trail hours run 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily. If the two main lots are full by the time you roll in, the county has been quietly adding overflow. The Rockland Road overflow lot at 6715 Rockland Road, located just north of the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Center, has been opened recently to accommodate the increase in visitation.

The Trailhead You Pick Changes the Day
Most residents default to the Nature Center lot and hike straight up the monadnock. That is one option out of many. The PATH system runs through half a dozen access points, and each opens a different Saturday.

A note on Evans Mill that most guides skip: the Cascades Trail loops back to the paved PATH where you can cross onto the Wilburn Farm Trail, and a loop can be made from this trail by connecting to the boomerang trail south back to the paved PATH and returning to the Evans Mill Trailhead. Two loops, one lot, no doubling back.
Downtown by 10
The stretch of the PATH that surprises long-time residents is the one closest to home. Just blocks from Lithonia's historic downtown, this quaint community park is perfect for a quick run, picnic, basketball game, playground visit or to enjoy a fun event at Lithonia Stuart Amphitheater made with local mountain stone.
That local mountain stone detail matters. Established in 1856, Lithonia, whose name is derived from the Greek word for stone, is a reflection of its surroundings. Granite found in the nearby Arabia Mountain and elsewhere in the region made stone quarrying a key economic driver in the city until the 1970s. The amphitheater is not decorative masonry. It is the industry that named the town, cut and stacked into a stage.
Saturdays in summer, downtown does double duty. The Lithonia Farmers Market runs every Saturday from June through August, with live music, poetry, fresh juices and produce, according to a local guide compiled by neighborhood residents. If you started at the Arabia trailhead at 7:30, you are back downtown in time for coffee, produce, and a bench before the heat sets in.
The Cool-Down Nobody Talks About
By early afternoon the granite is radiating. This is the part of the day that sends most people back to a couch and an air conditioner. It shouldn't.
The 2026 Aquatics Season at DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs runs from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day, with pools and splash pads open for fitness and family-friendly recreation. Guests can enjoy open swim, aquatic programming, swim lessons, and cool-off opportunities all summer long. The full season runs May 24 to September 1, 2026.

If You Have an Hour Between Pool and Sunset
Two options here, and they are not the same kind of stop.
The first is the Flat Rock Archives. The Flat Rock Archives is dedicated to preserving and exploring the history of one of the oldest African-American communities in Georgia. Flat Rock staff share the history and cultural legacy of Flat Rock and the surrounding area. The Flat Rock Archives consists of a variety of historic sites, including the Flat Rock African American Historic Cemetery, and all of these sites are located within the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area. Museum admission at the archive site has historically been modest, and tours run by appointment. Call ahead. If you have never been, this is the summer to fix that.
The second is longer and more physical. The Arabia Mountain PATH trail is a paved trail that runs from Lithonia to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, located south of Conyers. The Monastery is a place of peace and beauty where Trappist monks devote their lives to contemplation and stewardship, and it contains the largest privately-protected greenspace in the metro-Atlanta area. The full PATH is a road-bike ride, not a stroll. But even a segment out of Lithonia Park toward Lorraine Park gets you to something most residents have never seen.
Located between the De Castro Trailhead and the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, Lorraine Park and Trailhead is connected to the 34-mile PATH trail system with two beautiful river overlooks and access to a future paddle launch point in the South River. There is also a playground with bathrooms, pavilion and picnic table.

End at the Amphitheater
The City of Lithonia Amphitheater has been programming a heavier summer 2026 slate than in recent years, including a Jazz on the Lawn 2026 season and a Pre-Father's Day soul, jazz and funk concert. The venue has a long resident memory. The amphitheater stands as a testament to the power of music. From the beats of Morris Day that had the crowd dancing under the stars to the melodies of Melba Moore, this historic venue has witnessed the magic of artists like Carl Thomas and Karyn White; it is not just a venue but a living museum of musical moments that have become a part of the cultural fabric of the community.
A few things worth knowing before you show up with a cooler and a chair.
- The venue is at the Lithonia Middle School parking lot on the corner of Park Drive and College Place, directly adjacent to the Lithonia Amphitheater.
- All concerts are rain or shine. No smoking in venue, no upright umbrellas on the lawn, no cameras or recording equipment, no fireworks, no televisions, and no tables can be brought into the venue. TV trays are permitted in the seating area but none larger. Alcoholic beverages are permitted in proper containers.
- Prohibited items include weapons, large bags (clear bags only) and outside food and beverage items, though vendors are onsite for these items.
That clear-bag rule is the one that trips up first-timers. The rest is straightforward.
The Through Line
Here is the point most Lithonia Saturday roundups miss. The trail, the market, the pool, the archive, and the amphitheater are not five separate outings you have to pick between. They share a corridor, and in most cases they share a parking lot. The PATH connects the ones that don't.
On average, homes in Lithonia sell after 65 days on the market compared to the national average of 56 days. The median sale price for homes in Lithonia over the last 12 months is $260,000. Those are numbers residents will hear again in the fall. In July and August they are beside the point. What Lithonia has this summer is a walkable, ridable stretch of granite and forest and stage lights that no other southeast metro suburb can put together on one map.
